Peculiar Statistics
Mumbai Indians: Already sitting pretty for the semifinal berth at the top of the table, Mumbai Indians have been playing at the top of their performances this IPL. Coming out of the shadows of Sachin Tendulkar, who has been instrumental in playing inspired knocks and giving inspiring performances to take the team to the first ever Semi finals of IPL.
The fact has been attributed to lots of factors, with Keiron Pollard coming out and blazing the delhi bowlers, seems like no pressure on him to perform now. They look ominous, with batting, bowling and fielding performances Mumbai Indians seem to be the strongest contenders this time around. In the batting department, Sachin has been leading from front, however in the few matches that he hasn’t scored, MI have struggled a bit, but the middle order has more or less covered this area for them. With world class bowlers in the team, Mumbai has been top bowling side right from IPL season 1. The problem is of plenty now, remains to be seen what combination does Sachin goes for against the Royal Challengers.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Though they had emerged as one of the contenders of IPL season 3 title, Royal Challengers kind of slipped a bit when they lost 3 matches, however they have come back and won convincingly now, except the match against Deccan Chargers. In the batting department, there can’t be more explosive batting line up than this and with the entry of Ross Taylor, they just look awesome.
Virat Kohli seems to be hitting ball well andKallis is one of the top run makers this year and with Robin Uthappa making a mockery of all the bowling attacks, its going to be hell of a task for Mumbai to go past their batting. Bowling has been good from Bangalore side, with Dale Steyn in prime form and Praveen Kumar fetching IPL 3 hat trick, Vinay Kumar chipping in as good third seamer, RCB has good chance to play it fair and win against Mumbai.
Last 5 matches win/lose streak
Mumbai Indians: W,W,L,L,W
Royal Challengers Bangalore: W,L,W,L,L
Players to watch out for
Keiron Pollard: With a whirlwind innings from him against Delhi, he must have been relieved with the way he batted. The best of his abilities is yet to come and we are going to watch more of Pollard blasting in the coming matches. He has been chipping in with few runs and odd breakthrough here and there, now is the time to just raise the bar and play to the potential.
JP Duminy: A class batsman, he has come back to his form after a bad season with South African National Team. JP had been a prolific scorer for the Mumbai Team in the last season, however with local Mumbai talent providing good support to the Master, JP hasn’t got enough chances to prove his mettle. To give him more exposure, he should be there in the last eleven and gets maximum time in the middle.
Jacques Kallis: “The batsmen win matches”, that seems to be mantra for the best allrounder in the world today. Kallis has been the motivator and the beacon for Royal Challengers team this season of IPL. With Orange Cap changing its heads alternatively between him and Sachin, this match is going to decide who will be the eventual winner. RCB is going to be dependent on him to provide good start especially after Manish Pandey is out of form now.
Anil Kumble: The leg spinning King , Jumbo, has been in great form this IPL. With an economy rate of 6.11 he is on of the least scored off bowlers. The true ambassador of cricket and the assassin of the batsmen that he is, Kumble will be coming into his prime now since the last few matches are left. Who knows he might end up earning the Purple Cap at the end of tournament.
